Hi all, Is anyone experiencing problems with controlling their blood sugar levels? Since losing 40+ lbs. I've experienced Hypo as well as Hyperglycemia. My 1AC is now in the normal range. My GP has taken me off my diabetes meds. Any suggestions or similar effects? Thanks in advance, Dan

I have my lapband on 3/10/10. My Dr. has me on 1/2 of my insulin since I stared the pre-op diet. I'm really worried about low blood sugars.I don't want extra calories while on the diet. What did you do pre surgery? Pearl

Pre surgery, I was on meds for diabetes. I'm now off all meds for that problem. My A1C is within normal range. Hope you are doing well.

dits4golf Thanks, but did you go off your meds. a day after surgery, a week ? What was the time frame? I've only been on the pre-op diet for two days and I wonder if I should cut my insulin more that 1/2. Can't call my Doctor until Monday. I called today, but got no response. I need to loose 8 lbs. and don't want to take in Calories to up my blood sugar. When I get low I drink a Sunnydelight 6oz. 80 cal. Maybe I'm just obsessing over this. Only 12 more days before the lapband.

I can't advise you on what to do. My experience was that I noticed episodes of hypoglycemia about 2-3 weeks after surgery. I then kept close tract of my blood sugar counts and adjusted accordingly. When I saw my GP, he took me off everything but Januvia. My A1C is now in the normal range. I had my lap band surgery last Oct.
I'm sure weight loss will help you, but I have no idea how much. By the way, the surgery is "a piece of cake." The only thing easier for me was cateract (sp?) surgery. Be well,,,,,,,,

dits4golf--- Thanks again. I know you can't advise me, but what you said gave me some idea of what to expect with the blood sugars. It was helpful.

Remember diabetics- high blood sugars don't typically kill people instantly. It works long term on kidneys, eyes, blood vessels. What can harm people is LOW BLOOD SUGAR!!!! So, if you are experiencing low sugar my recommendation is always try to call your Dr. and discuss. But if you cannot reach the doctor on the weekend - remember you should still be able to call that office and talk to a Dr. on call. As a last resort - stop the diabetic medications and contact the Dr. first thing Monday morning.
